Royal Observatory Greenwich Address: Blackheath Avenue in Greenwich Park

Maze Hill is the closest mainline station, 0.6 miles (1 km), with the same steep hill and steps. Direct trains run from London Cannon Street and London Bridge. Greenwich station is 0.8 miles (1.3 km). Maze Hill is closer to the Observatory. Greenwich station is closer to Cutty Sark.

If you want to skip the hill, use Blackheath. It is 1.2 miles (2 km), a longer walk, but it does not climb the park. Maze Hill and Greenwich platforms are step-free via ramp, lifts or underpass.

Buses 53, 54, 202 and 380 stop at the top of Greenwich Park, closest to the Observatory. Those four skip the hill climb.

Buses 129, 177, 180, 188, 286, 386 and N1 stop at the National Maritime Museum. From there it is a 10 to 15 minute walk up, with a steep hill and some steps. Local buses also connect Greenwich Station to the town centre and the museum.

Greenwich Pier is 0.7 miles (1.1 km) from the Observatory, around 20 minutes on foot, including the hill. The pier sits next to Cutty Sark. The National Maritime Museum and Queen's House are a five-minute walk from the river.

Uber Boat by Thames Clippers leaves major London piers about every 20 minutes. The museum's times: 45 minutes from London Eye Pier, 25 from London Bridge, 20 from Tower Pier. City Cruises run sightseeing boats to Greenwich every 40 minutes. Greenwich Pier has a Ramp Rider for wheelchair boarding at low tide.

The nearest car park is the Greenwich Park car park, postcode SE10 8QY. It runs along Blackheath Avenue from Blackheath Gates down toward the Observatory. About 0.3 miles (500 m), around five minutes, and it avoids the steep hill. Open seven days during park opening hours. Metered, run by Royal Parks.

The National Maritime Museum car park is on Park Row, SE10 9NG. Weekends, bank holidays and school holidays 10:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., limited weekday spaces. From £14 for the day. That walk is 15 to 20 minutes and does not skip the hill. It closes after the sites close at 5:00 p.m. Cars only, no minibuses.

West and east Greenwich have camera restrictions on weekdays, 7:00 to 10:00 a.m. and 3:00 to 7:00 p.m., to stop through traffic. Blue Badge holders can be exempt. Check the Greenwich Council map if you are driving in those hours.

There are two routes through Greenwich Park from the National Maritime Museum. The main path is 10 to 15 minutes up a steep hill with steps. The museum builds in a short pause halfway for the city view.

The less steep route, the one they recommend for wheelchair users, takes about 25 minutes. That timing is an adult pushing an adult wheelchair, with a short break. Cycle paths run through the park. Cycle racks are in the National Maritime Museum car park on Park Row.
