Tower of London Opening Times: Last Entry and Closed Days

From March to October the Tower of London closes at 5:30 p.m., last entry 4:30 p.m. November to February it closes at 4:30 p.m., last entry 3:30 p.m. Closed 24 to 26 December and 1 January.

When the Tower of London is open

The Tower of London runs two clocks a year. From March through October it opens Tuesday to Saturday at 9:00 a.m. and Sunday and Monday at 10:00 a.m., last entry 4:30 p.m. The buildings close at 5:30 p.m.

From November through February the close moves to 4:30 p.m. and last entry to 3:30 p.m. The same 9:00 / 10:00 split still holds. It is closed on 24, 25 and 26 December, and on 1 January.

Historic Royal Palaces says the site is quieter after midday. They recommend two or three hours once you are in, so a last-entry ticket is a short visit.

The Wharf along the river keeps a separate clock, usually 7:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m. Some dates it closes at 6:00 p.m. A gun salute can close part of it.

Yeoman Warder tours at the Tower of London

The Yeoman Warder tour is included with admission and you cannot book a place in advance. Tours start near the main entrance, at the Bell Tower, every 45 minutes, in English.

Tuesday to Saturday the first tour is 10:00 a.m., Sunday and Monday 10:45 a.m., last tour 3:15 p.m. That last slot is the one Historic Royal Palaces publishes for both the summer and winter clocks.

Weather and crowds can shorten or cancel a tour. A gun salute at 1:00 p.m. cancels that slot.

The door

The fortress sits on the north bank of the Thames, at Tower Hill. Historic Royal Palaces names Tower Hill Underground as the step-free stop. Address and Directions has the station, the pier, and the walk from the DLR.

Once you are inside
